Muda now identifies itself as social democratic party

PETALING JAYA: Muda has identified itself as a social democratic party, putting to rest questions about the youth party’s political alignment.
In a statement today, the party said members will be given exposure to the political ideology through its nationwide roadshows.
Muda’s identification with social democracy, an ideological subset of socialism, ostensibly gives validation to the party’s ongoing alliance and cooperation with Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
It puts a name to the struggle of the party, which previously had been mainly identifiable as a youth party fighting for institutional reforms and various populist issues.
The party’s newly announced alignment is part of its restructuring and rejuvenation drive since early 2024, which it said has seen the formation of small committees with various portfolios.
It also said a new online portal has been opened from today for the general public to apply for membership and for existing members to manage the details of their membership.
Party information chief Leben Siddarth told FMT the online system had been up since the beginning of May and was first shown to all the members of its central, state and parliamentary-level committees.
This is the first time any party has set up a digital portal that allows users to apply for membership and manage the details of their membership, including transfers across states, unlike other parties that still require pen-and-paper applications, he said.
Muda said the party had previously viewed membership based on mass registrations as its best option but had now shifted its focus to a cadre management system.
Leben said under this system, applications from aspiring members need to be validated by a proposer and seconder from within the party.
He said should they not know anyone within the party, they can contact party representatives in their respective states for aid.
